December '98

In retrospect, it was a good month.  '99 is sucking so far, in terms of shows: nothing cool to see until mid February. Oooo.

Magic Fingers, Cool Nutz, King Black Acid-- La Luna

Unfortunately, I missed the end of  Magic Fingers' set while I was at home testing my piece of crap 'bargain' &$%#ing Xmas lights.  But between sets while we all wandered around, we got to stare at the lovely Spike and the lovely Matt and poke each other in the ribs and drank beers and had too much fun generally.

Cool Nutz is Portland hiphop.  Unfortunately, Portland has an overlooked hiphop scene.  Grr.  Because almost all of the rappers I've seen from here (Mizzery, 151, Azteca X, Cool Nutz) have been good.

KBA was blissfully good.  I keep thinking at some point I'll get tired of them, but I don't.  And now I have a couple of tracks of theirs on tape, thanks to the lovely Jemiah.  Anyway, they had a kickass singer (named Tahoe? Or something like that) along for the show this time.

Magic Fingers, Sunset Valley-- EJ's New Year's Eve

I was very busy running into everyone I knew, before this show, and during it.  Magic Fingers rocked, as usual.  Am now convinced that they are more like the Who than anyone else.  Could it just be that the bass player keeps saying 'Magic Bus' between songs? I have dedicated more time to Who-listening, just to make sure.   Geez are they cute.  Have I mentioned that lately?

There was some obnoxious  guy giving away prizes, I wish he would just shut up.  Not quite as annoying as my creeping fishnets, but almost.

Sunset Valley played all of their songs, plus all of the covers I've ever heard them play.  And they played 'Sabotage,' which was killer. Very long set.   Strobing bunny.  Running out of words. Good show.

*yawn*
